Monteith Celebration

The Monteith House Museum Invites you to Celebrate Oregon’s 150th Birthday! The Monteith Historical Society of Albany, Oregon is Celebrating Oregon’s Sesquicentennial on February 14th from Noon to 4pm, with an event filled with music, living history and Birthday Cake! The event includes a Wagon & Buggy Show with vehicles coming from all over the state. There will be prizes awarded in several categories including a “People’s Choice award”. Living History demonstrators will be presenting information on various topics including Dutch oven cooking, Coopering, and Quilted clothing of the pioneer period. The Museum’s exhibits have been refreshed and a new exhibit space has been filled with exhibits on the Monteiths and their contributions to early Albany as well as the State of Oregon. Music of the period will be provided by, the Pioneer Brass Ensemble. Recognized as the Northwest's premier brass ensemble, the Pioneer Brass is one of the few authentic brass groups performing in the nation today. They have been working on some "new" arrangements including a piece by E.J. Finck written especially for Albany in the 1890s. They will also be playing "Sweet Oregon" by Henry DeMoss (1874), "Dear Old Oregon" by Joan Billings (1923), "The Beautiful Oregon Shore" by W.J. Crawford (1903), amongst others. It's great stuff. The museum is located at 518 2nd Ave SW, in downtown Albany, across the street from the Post Office. The Monteith House was built in 1849, and is the oldest building in Albany. Anyone who is interested in showing their horse drawn vehicle is asked to contact Oscar Hult, President of the Monteith Historical Society, at (541) 979-9108 to register. The Monteith House Museum is a member of the Oregon Museums Association and is an Oregon 150 partner.
