Veterans Day Parade

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe Albany’s Veterans Day Parade is the biggest Veterans Day celebration west of the Mississippi. With hundreds of entries and thousands of spectators, it’s a town-wide patriotic extravaganza every November and the center of Oregon’s Veterans Day celebrations.

For more than 60 years, Albany has been honoring veterans with a parade on Veterans Day. Every year, floats include military color guards, distinguished veterans, classic cars, scout troops, and a motorcycle honor guard leading the way.

The parade is held on Veterans Day every year and begins at 11 a.m. The route leads down Lyon Street and loops through downtown Albany. Visitors start lining the streets early, bringing chairs to stake out their favorite spots. The Albany Visitors Association is located at Third and Lyon, directly on the parade route, and visitors are welcome to watch the parade from in front of the AVA office and enjoy free coffee and hot cocoa.

Other Veterans Day events in Albany include a pancake breakfast at West Albany High School; the Veteran of the Year Banquet at American Legion Post 10; and a memorial service at the Linn County Veterans Memorial in Timber-Linn Park.
