Join the Albany Carousel for a sensory-friendly ride!
To provide a more accepting and comfortable setting for individuals on the autism spectrum or with sensory sensitivities and their families, we will slow the carousel down to a jog and turn off the organ music.
It’s our hope to provide a fun and inviting space for everyone. So put on your blue and join us!

The Featured Artists at Gallery Calapooia for May 2023 are Koka Filipovic and Bill Marshall. Their art will be on display from now until May 27.
From Koka Filipovic
“Art can serve to inspire us to feel the joy that is a natural part of being human. It offers some much needed relief during these unprecedented times of rapid fire changes. It has become my joy to share this unique experience in a variety of nature inspired pieces that offer a sense of being inside a sanctuary. My deep reverence for the natural world has inspired a collection of contemporary and arts and crafts designs that serve to enhance a variety of interior settings.”
From Bill Marshall
“Is it me, or has this been one of longest, cold, wet winters here in western Oregon, my home for the past 40 years? As a fisher and gardener, I welcome the rejuvenating rains, and the mountain snowpack assuring that there will be ample water in our rivers, lakes, and reservoirs during the heat of the summer. And as an artist, I feel so fortunate to be able to turn to the studio when the pouring rain prevents such outdoor activities. I can turn away from the wet windows, put on some music, and drift off into the land of drawing, painting, and printmaking. So, what subjects does one choose when the snow/rain mix is blowing sideways outside? Sunflowers in full bloom, drifting in a canoe, fishing a mountain stream, the garden in full production, of course!”

Sponsored by Albany Landmarks Commission and presented by Vintage Window Restoration, this one day workshop is oriented to homeowners who wish to repair their windows on their own but need the initial nudge to become inspired. Snacks and coffee will be served in the morning, then the class will head out to an actual project where they learn about numerous parts of a window, work space set-up, a bit of history, and work their way to gently removing the bottom sash of a window. Attendees will become more informed about how to preserve Albany’s historic stock. This event is part of Albany’s celebration of Historic Preservation Month.
The workshop is free, but space is limited and reservations required. Contact Alyssa Schrems at alyssa.schrems@cityofalbany.net or (541) 791-0176.
