History of the Cumberland

The Cumberland Church building has been a part of Albany for 130 years. The church was built in 1892 by the Cumberland Presbyterians, a progressive branch of the Presbyterian Church. When it was dedicated on May 5, 1892, it was a rectangular, one room meeting-style church. The building was moved to its new home on the corner of Santiam and Pine on October 17, 2021. The new address is 1400 Santiam Road SE. Once restoration is complete, the Cumberland would offer educational and enrichment programs for children and families, provide a facility for the arts, education, recreation, celebration and locally-based activities, and invite groups, both public and private, to rent the building for events. May 20 @ 7:30 pm
Albany Civic Theater presents Love, Loss, and What I Wore @ Albany Civic Theater | Albany | Oregon | United States

A play of interactive monologues, Love, Loss, and What I Wore covers a lot of territory linked by the common thread of what was worn at key moments in women’s lives. There’s the unfortunate prom dress, the evils of fitting rooms, the inability to find anything in your messy purse, searching for a bridal gown, and the trauma of bra shopping for the first time. The stories are all deeply personal, yet oddly enough, universal. ASL interpretation will be offered at the showing on May 19. On-demand streaming tickets are also available.  Tickets for live shows are $14 for adults and $11 for for under 18, Seniors 60+, US Military and Veterans, and holders of Oregon Trail Cards. For tickets and information visit albanycivic.org.

Exploring Rosés at Wine Crush @ Wine Crush | Albany | Oregon | United States

Wine Crush is bringing back their Wine 101 classes with Exploring Rosés. Certified Sommelier Hillary Davidson will lead the class in a discussion on Rosé wines. There are about as many styles and flavors as there are wine makers when it comes to Rosés. In the class, you will get to taste dry, off dry (a little sweet), bubbling and a couple of surprises! Bring a friend, meet new friends or bring Mom and enjoy a guided tasting. Tickets are $25, and you can get them at Exploring Rosés.

The Wine 101 classes are generally held one Sunday every month. Wine Crush closes the doors to the public, pushes the tables together, and serves some snacks while everyone talks about wine.
