Welcome to AVA’s monthly calendar of events. Take a peek and plan your stay-cation or your next visit to our region. The city’s most notable annual events include historic home tours, outdoor summer concerts and movies under the stars, and the Northwest Art and Air Festival.
*Note for event organizers: If you’d like to have your event listed on the AVA calendar, head over to our contact page and submit your event to us.
The Albany Arts Commission (AAC) will participate in Albany’s First Friday event in April with its first-ever commission members show.
On First Friday, April 5, 2024, members of the AAC will host a reception at City Hall from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm.
This event is free and open to the public. Come meet your AAC active artist members, enjoy refreshments, view the variety of their work, and learn more about AAC’s mission and goals to support the arts in our community.
The AAC has raised public funds to support ongoing artist receptions for First Friday downtown for the rest of 2024.

“Something Different, Something New”
Community Art Exhibit 2024
It’s finally here! The exhibit we wait for all year – the Community Art Exhibit! Known officially as “The Big Show of Little Art”, this is the exhibit where we invite the community to enter family friendly art in Gallery Calapooia. For this month, our members squeeze together to be able to free up two of our 21 panels for the display of the art made by anyone who can get their art here to the Gallery at the entry time. The pieces have to be 8 inches by 8 inches or if they are 3D, 8 x 8 x 8.
This exhibit is such a lot of fun! We get art work from people of all ages and in many different media. When you come to the Gallery, you will see work by toddlers hanging right next to the work of professional artists.
Being aware that folks of many ages will be attending our reception party for this event so the refreshments will also be family friendly. There will be a great ice cream punch, but no wine or beer. Cookies and chocolates will also be available.
Come and help us celebrate the terrific artists from around our region who braved the bad weather earlier this month to enter their art work for us all to see and enjoy. Also remember that everything is for sale, so you might be able to get a lovely art piece for your valentine!
Every First Friday, you can meet the artists whose artwork will be displayed this month at Gallery Calapooia at their Artist Reception.

Four eccentric Broadway stars are in desperate need of a new stage. So when they hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue…and themselves. The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance on the straight and narrow—but when one student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town has a date with destiny. On a mission to transform lives, Broadway’s brassiest join forces with a courageous girl and the town’s citizens and the result is love that brings them all together. Winner of the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical, The Prom expertly captures all the humor and heart of a classic musical comedy with a message that resonates with audiences now more than ever.
