Dive Into History

Albany is a history and architecture lover’s destination. Our four historic districts include styles from the 1840s through the late 1920s. In fact, we have one of the most varied collections in Oregon. Tour them on your own or join us for seasonal celebrations.

Albany’s historic collection includes everything from colorful Queen Annes, the “painted ladies” of historic homes to Craftsman Bungalows that feature a variety of natural materials. The home of Albany’s founders, the pioneer-era Monteith House, has been restored with period-correct detail and serves a as a house museum. You can take a self-guided tour of historic districts any time, or visit during the Annual Christmas Parlour Tour for a peek inside the lovingly-restored homes. Albany is also home to museums, antique shops and over 700 historic buildings; outside the city lies a loop of picturesque covered bridges. A visit to Albany is an experience rich in pioneer history and charm.
