Local Government

The City of Albany exercises its powers through a home rule charter under a Council-Manager management style. A directly elected non-partisan Mayor with a two-year term leads a six-member, non-partisan City Council who are elected to four-year, overlapping terms. A full-time City Manager administers the affairs of the city for the Council. Albany is the largest city in Linn County and its courthouse is the center for county business.
