Cider pressing fun for the whole family is scheduled for three Saturdays this fall–September 23, October 14 and 28. Thompson’s Mills State Heritage Site is open free to the public from dawn to dusk with cider pressing from 11am to 3pm. Fresh cider is available (limit one gallon per family) for your donation to Thompson’s Mills Preservation Society. TMPS President Rebecca Martin will have storytelling for the younger ones and mill-themed gifts are available. Telephone the Mill for additional information at 541.491.3611. Docents are on hand for mill tours–pack a lunch and make a day of it!
Fresh-pressed apple cider was one of the delicious food of settler life. The Oregon Trail settlers who built Thompson’s Mills pressed apples for cider, and now you can too! Come early before we run out of apples! For a donation, you can take home half-gallon containers filled with apple cider. You are also welcome to bring your own apples to press.
The turbines will be running all day, and guides will be stationed throughout the mill to help you make your own flour, explain how the turbines work and tell the story of how and why the last water-powered mill in Oregon still operates. Operating the hands-on exhibits and seeing wooden beams hand-hewn when Abraham Lincoln was president make Thompson’s Mills a memorable family experience. Hosted by the Thompson’s Mills Preservation Society.

This event is part of Albany‘s celebration of National Historic Preservation Month.
Members of Friends of Historic Albany (FOHA) will be discussing historically significant residents and structures during a one-hour walking tour through a portion of the Hackleman Historic District.
The tour begins at 2:30 p.m. in front of the former Oregon Electric Railroad Depot, 133 5th Ave. SE,
Join Calapooia for their Ales for ALS release party!
Calapooia Brewing has teamed up with the ALS Therapy Development Institute to create this exciting seasonal brew. $1 per pint of Ice Bucket IPA will be donated to fund ALS research. The release party will allow us to raise additional funds to support this great cause. We will host a raffle, a dunk tank and other games, food and FUN!
Our 2024 Ales for ALS brew is aptly named the Ice Bucket IPA. This crisp and refreshing Cold IPA is fermented with lager yeast and brewed using 20% rice to keep this beer light and dry. Citrus, pine resin and tropical notes shine from this year’s Ales for ALS hop blend.
A block party will be co-hosted on June 29th, spanning from Vine St to Ash St and including the American Legion parking lot. The event will feature craft vendors on Ash and Vine St, a professional steak cookoff in the parking lot of 525 S Main St, as well as food, drinks, face painting, a dunk tank, car show, cornhole tournament, and music. Fun for everyone! This event will be a fundraiser for Dala’s Blue Angels. Head to downtown Lebanon on the 29th for some great fun!
