“COUNTING ON EWE TO JOIN US”!!

The City of Scio is excited for this year’s fair – “Counting on Ewe to Join Us”. The theme is very appropriate, as it depicts the partnerships that help make Scio and the surrounding area a great place to live, work and play!
It is their hope that you experience a warm welcome when attending this year’s fair. Fair time allows you an opportunity to gather together and enjoy family and friends, reconvene old traditions and celebrate Scio’s rich family heritage, agricultural history and beautiful natural resources.

Albany Civic Theater presents Love, Loss, and What I Wore @ Albany Civic Theater

Albany Civic Theater presents Love, Loss, and What I Wore @ Albany Civic Theater | Albany | Oregon | United States

A play of interactive monologues, Love, Loss, and What I Wore covers a lot of territory linked by the common thread of what was worn at key moments in women’s lives. There’s the unfortunate prom dress, the evils of fitting rooms, the inability to find anything in your messy purse, searching for a bridal gown, and the trauma of bra shopping for the first time. The stories are all deeply personal, yet oddly enough, universal. ASL interpretation will be offered at the showing on May 19. On-demand streaming tickets are also available.  Tickets for live shows are $14 for adults and $11 for for under 18, Seniors 60+, US Military and Veterans, and holders of Oregon Trail Cards. Stand or Fall: The Science of Structural Assessment @ Albany Municipal Airport
May 20 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Stand or Fall: The Science of Structural Assessment @ Albany Municipal Airport | Albany | Oregon | United States
Did you miss out on seeing Albany’s historic hangar? Do you want to learn more? Good news! There’s another event taking place at the airport presented by Mariapaola Riggio, PhD in Structural Engineering and Associate Professor in Wood design and Architecture at OSU, and her graduate students in the “Structural Health Assessment and Monitoring of Timber Structures” class. The lecture will demonstrate a holistic approach to assessing structural health of historic wood buildings. Structural health assessment is crucial because a building can be likened to a living organism that undergoes changes during its service life due to factors such as the environment, loading history, maintenance, and use. While there has been a growing use of engineered wood systems in large span structures, a specific focus on the performance and reliability of timber structures is relatively recent. Moreover, interest in the conservation of the architectural timber heritage has also increased steadily over the last few decades.
This event is free, but please sign up to reserve your spot at Eventbright.
This event is part of Albany’s celebration of National Historic Preservation Month.

History of the Cumberland

The Cumberland Church building has been a part of Albany for 130 years. The church was built in 1892 by the Cumberland Presbyterians, a progressive branch of the Presbyterian Church. When it was dedicated on May 5, 1892, it was a rectangular, one room meeting-style church. The building was moved to its new home on the corner of Santiam and Pine on October 17, 2021. The new address is 1400 Santiam Road SE. Once restoration is complete, the Cumberland would offer educational and enrichment programs for children and families, provide a facility for the arts, education, recreation, celebration and locally-based activities, and invite groups, both public and private, to rent the building for events. Read more about the history of the Cumberland at AlbanyCumberland.org.

Exploring Rosés at Wine Crush @ Wine Crush | Albany | Oregon | United States

Wine Crush is bringing back their Wine 101 classes with Exploring Rosés. Certified Sommelier Hillary Davidson will lead the class in a discussion on Rosé wines. There are about as many styles and flavors as there are wine makers when it comes to Rosés. In the class, you will get to taste dry, off dry (a little sweet), bubbling and a couple of surprises! Bring a friend, meet new friends or bring Mom and enjoy a guided tasting. Tickets are $25, and you can get them at Exploring Rosés.

The Wine 101 classes are generally held one Sunday every month. Wine Crush closes the doors to the public, pushes the tables together, and serves some snacks while everyone talks about wine.
