Samaritan Health Services will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by an open house and refreshments, on Friday, Oct. 27, from 12:30 to 6 p.m., for the new Sweet Home Medical Center, located at 1289 49th Ave. in Sweet Home. The event is open to the public. Remarks from Samaritan Health Services’ leadership will begin shortly after 12:30 p.m. A ribbon cutting, tours and refreshments will immediately follow. The completion of this facility exemplifies the commitment of so many to building a healthier community together. The 17,500-square-foot building focuses on improving access to health care with clinics offering family medicine, walk-in care and medication management as well as a retail pharmacy with a drive-up window and a helipad. Cider pressing fun for the whole family is scheduled for three Saturdays this fall–September 23, October 14 and 28. Thompson’s Mills State Heritage Site is open free to the public from dawn to dusk with cider pressing from 11am to 3pm. Fresh cider is available (limit one gallon per family) for your donation to Thompson’s Mills Preservation Society. TMPS President Rebecca Martin will have storytelling for the younger ones and mill-themed gifts are available. Telephone the Mill for additional information at 541.491.3611. Docents are on hand for mill tours–pack a lunch and make a day of it!
Fresh-pressed apple cider was one of the delicious food of settler life. The Oregon Trail settlers who built Thompson’s Mills pressed apples for cider, and now you can too! Come early before we run out of apples! For a donation, you can take home half-gallon containers filled with apple cider. You are also welcome to bring your own apples to press.
The turbines will be running all day, and guides will be stationed throughout the mill to help you make your own flour, explain how the turbines work and tell the story of how and why the last water-powered mill in Oregon still operates. Operating the hands-on exhibits and seeing wooden beams hand-hewn when Abraham Lincoln was president make Thompson’s Mills a memorable family experience. Deluxe Brewing and Sinister Distilling will host the Albany Toy Run on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the brewery located at 635 NE Water Ave. All motorcycle riders, classic car drivers and passengers are encouraged to participate in this fun event. New, unwrapped toys, for children of all ages are needed for donation. Community members are welcome to drop off donations with brewery staff during open business hours this week. The Deluxe Brewing taproom is open Monday through Friday, 3 – 9 pm, Saturday 12 – 9 pm, and this Sunday 11 am – 8 pm.
The Albany Toy Run parade will begin at 11 a.m., starting at the Walmart Supercenter
parking lot, at 1330 Goldfish Farm Rd SE, Albany, Ore. Motorcycle riders will be joined by
Santa Claus, riding on an Albany Fire Department truck, who will escort their donations
from Walmart to Deluxe Brewing where they will unload all of the donated toys and
enjoy a festive reception. Riders will depart Walmart at 11 a.m. exactly.
Between 1 and 4 p.m., children and their families are invited to visit Deluxe Brewing,
where they will have the opportunity to meet Santa and his elves who will help the
children choose a gift for Christmas. If you have a child or children with special needs
who are not able to attend the party, please contact Beth Walker at 541-730-1042.
The Albany Toy Run was first hosted in 1983 and was started by The Association for
Motorcyclists of Oregon. It is an annual event hosted by local motorcyclists to provide
Christmas joy to the children of the Albany area through donated toys. Throughout the
past 40 years, this event has been carried on by members who wanted to ensure that it
continues helping local children and their family’s have a better Christmas.
Admission to the event is free, and minors are welcome in Deluxe Brewing. The Deluxe
Food Cart will be open on Sunday, serving a limited menu from 12 – 2 pm to
