In May of 1923 the Jefferson Women’s Club appointed a committee to find a suitable place to house a public library. The first library was opened on July 10, 1923, in the Smith and Fontaine General Merchandise Store with club members serving as volunteer librarians.
Join the Jefferson Public Library for their Centennial Open House on Aug. 1 from 10am – 7pm. They’re celebrating the library’s past, present, and future with games, food & fun!

Celebrate the Cumberland’s 132nd birthday! Join the Community Events Center and enjoy tours, cake, and the history of this wonderful building, which is being renovated and will be home to the Cumberland Community Events Center. This event is part of Albany’s celebration of National History Preservation Month.
History of the Cumberland
The Cumberland Church building has been a part of Albany for 130 years. The church was built in 1892 by the Cumberland Presbyterians, a progressive branch of the Presbyterian Church. When it was dedicated on May 5, 1892, it was a rectangular, one-room meeting-style church. The building was moved to its new home on the corner of Santiam and Pine on October 17, 2021. The new address is 1400 Santiam Road SE. Once the restoration is complete, Cumberland will offer educational and enrichment programs for children and families, and provide a facility for the arts, education, recreation, celebration, and locally-based activities. DRTR (Dave Rogers, TR Gregg and Micke McDonough) uses combinations of vocal harmonies, saxophone, harmonica, guitar, keyboards, and percussion to create a musical experience that is like a fine wine served up at just the right time. The fun starts in the Atrium at 1:00 pm on Father’s Day! Bring dad, uncle, son, friend, or grandpa and join the crew at Calapooia as they serve up a delicious steak dinner. Enjoy this meal as the longest-running Blues Jam in Oregon provides the entertainment!
Froggy and his gang meet every Sunday from 3-6 pm to play the best blues around.
This will be a wonderful event and a real treat for the family. Even the dog can come!
